Celebrations of the Constitution Day of India

The Consulate General of India, Guangzhou celebrated the Constitution Day at the premises of the Consulate on 26 November 2022 at 1100 hours, to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India.

2.     Notwithstanding the inclement weather as well as the covid-related restrictions and lockdowns in various parts of Guangzhou, the event was organized in a hybrid format and was attended by enthusiastic Indian Diaspora, Consulate officials and their family members.

3.     The event began with a short documentary on the ‘Making of Indian Constitution’. Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki gave a special address on the Constitution of India to grace the occasion. This was followed by Reading of the Preamble to the Constitution of India, led by the Consul General.

4.     In his remarks, Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki also assured the Indian Diaspora of their assistance during the ongoing covid-restrictions and the current situation in Guangzhou. He informed them about the emergency number of the Consulate and reinstated that the Consulate is available 24X7 to provide assistance to the Diaspora members in case of emergency.

5.     As a run-up to the celebrations of the Constitution Day, the Consulate had organized a ‘Read the Preamble in any Indian Language’ campaign on social media, inviting members of Indian Diaspora based in South China to read the Preamble in their languages and send us a video. There was an enthusiastic response from the Indian community members proficient in various Indian languages like Tamil, Sindhi, Sanskrit, Manipuri, Bengali and Hindi, to name a few. Their videos have been uploaded on the social media accounts of the Consulate.

6.     To carry forward this initiative, Indian Diaspora members, who had joined us virtually to celebrate the Constitution Day of India, also participated in the live reading of the Preamble to the Constitution in their own languages, including Assamese, Hindi and Tamil.
