As part of celebrations for Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou organized a unique Painting Workshop on Kerala Murals, called ‘Panchvarna’ for the Diplomatic corps based in South China at premises of the Consulate on 2 September 2022 (Friday). The workshop saw an enthusiastic participation from around 25 diplomats. The workshop was conducted a well known artist Dhanya Ranjit.

2. In his address Consul General mentioned about the Consulate’s initiatives to spread the knowledge of Indian arts & culture in South China. Consul General highlighted the techniques used in the Kerala murals and its historical importance.

3. The workshop received a very positive response from the diplomats. The Consul General of Thailand shared her experience saying that “..this workshop is amazing as I have a chance to learn & experience the mural painting of India, where I have never been to but I would love to visit some day..”. Consul General of Turkey said, “.. we are very thankful to our CGI friends. Today we learnt to paint a special Indian art. It was relaxing and we had many happy moments. This is not the first time we have been to the Indian Consulate in Guangzhou. Luckily we have a very talented and active CG & we enjoy the events which are being organised by him & his lovely wife.. and a special thanks to the teacher”. Spouse of the Turkish Consul General added, “… it was a wonderful experience. I liked it very much. To discover Indian arts is a very long journey which brings many positive feelings…thank you very much CG and Indian Consulate..”. Diplomat from Angola sharedhis experience, “I am very glad to participate in these activities organized by the Consulate. We can learn many things like drawing & I hope we can teach this experience to people who are not here..thank you very much..”

4. The Kerala Murals Painting Workshop is a part of the ‘Manch’ - an initiative undertaken by the Consulate to promote Indian Arts & Culture through Workshops and Classes. Earlier, the Consulate had organized Bollywood Dance and Kathak Workshops under this initiative.

5. After the Painting Workshop, the diplomats visited an exhibition on Indian Handlooms organized by the Consulate General of India to promote Indian Handlooms and Handicrafts in South China. The exhibition was inaugurated by Ambassador of India to China H.E. Pradeep Kumar Rawat during his visit to South China on 26 August 2022.”
