As part of commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) and for the promotion of Indian Arts & Culture in South China, the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou as set up under ‘Manch’ - an initiative to organize workshops and classes on Indian Classical Dance & Music to share this knowledge to the next generation of diaspora kids as well as the locals and international community based in South China. The first workshop of the series was organized on ‘Kathak’ - one of the eight classical dance forms of India. The event saw enthusiastic participation from the members of the Diplomatic Corps, Indian diaspora as well as the Chinese public.

2. The event was inaugurated by lighting of the lamp by Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki and Mrs Suma Hakki. Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki welcomed the guests and addressed the gathering. In his address, Consul General highlighted the concept of ‘Manch’ and ‘Bythak’ - the two initiatives undertaken by the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou to connect all the artists spread across the seven provinces in South China with an aim to provide a platform for promoting Indian classical dance and classical music.

3. The ‘Kathak’ Workshop will be a series of 12 sessions to be held at the Consulate premises every Wednesday, conducted by a local artist Ms Kristy, who is a disciple of Pandit Birju Maharaj.
