Press Release for the first ‘Bythak’

As part of commemoration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) and for the promotion of Indian Arts & Culture in South China, the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou hosted its first ‘Bythak’- an evening of Indian Classical Dance & Music, under the theme “Nritya Shakti” showcasing a bouquet of performances by local talents in Indian Classical Dances followed by a befitting tribute to Lata Mangeshkar ji. The event saw a huge participation from the members of the Diplomatic Corps, Chinese artists & Indian community members among others. 
2.     Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki welcomed the guests and addressed the gathering. Ambassador H.E. Pradeep Kumar Rawat delivered inaugural address in which he highlighted the significance of India’s ancient cultural heritage as a whole as well as the the aesthetic and cultural impact of Indian Classical Dances in the world.
3.     The programme opened up with the enthralling performance of emerging artist Miss Reva Devani on Bharatnatyam. This was followed by local Chinese artist Miss Kristy who paid a befitting tribute to Pandit Birju Maharaj through her performance on Kathak. Renowned artist from the Indian Diaspora Dr Reshmita Nath, a Meteorology professor by profession and her daughter Miss Deborshmi Nath introduced the concept of Bharatnatyam and performed a series of dances.
4.     Indian diaspora members Mrs Sridevi Zhang and Mrs Maitreyee Ray paid a tribute to Lata Mangeshkar ji by singing a medley of her songs. The programme concluded with felicitation of artists and the supporters of the ‘Bythak’ by Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki along with Mrs. Suma Hakki.
5.     ‘Bythak’ is an initiative by the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou to commemorate the 75 years of India’s independence and for the promotion of Indian Arts & Culture in South China. The Bythaks will provide a platform for local artists to showcase their talents as also help the emerging artists to hone their skills. The Bythaks will be held on the fourth Friday of every month as part of an initiative taken to promote Indian Culture & Arts in South China - “Manch”. The initiative is intends to connect all the artists spread across the seven provinces in South China and aims to provide a platform for promoting Indian classical dance and classical music.
