Celebration of 73rd Republic Day of India

The 73rd Republic Day of India was celebrated in Guangzhou with a flag-hoisting ceremony on 26th January, 2022 at the Consulate General of India. More than 120 members of the Indian community joined the celebrations.

Consul General Shambhu Hakki, unfurled the tricolor, which was followed by singing of the National Anthem. He also read out the Address by the Hon'ble President of India on the eve of Republic Day. In his remarks to the community, Consul General complimented them for their work in promoting Indian culture and arts in South China.

To celebrate the 159th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda this year, the Consulate organized an exhibition on the “Life and Message of Swami Vivekananda” for Indian community at the Consulate premises.

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), the Consulate General of India has also taken an outreach initiative to promote Indian Culture & Arts in South China - “Manch”. The initiative is proposed to connect all the artists spread across the seven provinces in South China and aims to provide a platform for promoting Indian classical dance and classical music. As part of this initiative, monthly cultural events called “Bythak” are also being proposed.

The celebrations saw enthusiastic participation from Indian diaspora and local Chinese artists who presented a bouquet of performances. The children presented patriotic dance and songs, instrumental recitals & poem recitation. The event also saw performances of patriotic and Indian classical dance forms like Bharatnatyam & Kathak, singing of classical music by both Indian and Chinese artists.
