Yoga for Diplomats

As part of commemoration of the 73rd Republic Day of India and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou launched a three month-long “Yoga for Diplomats” programme in cooperation with Iyenger YogaShala, Guangzhou. The opening session of the Yoga programme was inaugurated by Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki along with Mrs. Suma Hakki at the Consulate premises. More than 30 diplomats from 20 Consulates based in Guangzhou attended the event.

In his address, Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki highlighted the importance of Yoga in everyone’s life, especially in this time of the pandemic and explained the Common Yoga Protocol, which intends to create general awareness among the masses to attain peace, harmony and well being through Yoga practices.

Ms Evelyn Li, CEO Iyenger YogaShala, Guangzhou and a well known Ayurveda expert Dr Irshad K also spoke during the event. The event featured introduction of several yoga postures along with brief explanations about the health benefits of each one of them. The “Yoga for Diplomats” is a part of the ongoing efforts of the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou, to promote yoga in South China. The Consulate has also planned several activities in the run-up to the International Day of Yoga, which will be celebrated on June 21, 2022.
