PRESS RELEASE : Pathshala Workshop 5- Introduction to Kathak
Consulate General of India, Guangzhou organized the 5th edition of Pathshala Series ‘Introduction to Kathak’ which was conducted by Ms Jessica Corea, an eminent Kathak artist and choreographer from Colombia, on 20 January 2024. The Artist Ms Jessica is a student of the legendary Pandit Birju Maharaj.
2. Ambassador of India H.E. Shri Pradeep Kumar Rawat inaugurated the Kathak workshop and delivered a Keynote Address. In his Address, Ambassador talked about the importance of Indian culture acting as a thread to connect world civilizations and appreciated the Consulate’s efforts in organising such workshops for the promotion of Indian Arts and Culture in South China. During the workshop, Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki delivered Welcome Remarks.
3. During the Workshop, Kathak Artist Ms Jessica Correa gave a brief presentation on the introduction to Kathak, one of the 8 Classical Indian Dance forms. This was followed by a practical session on the technical aspects of Kathak including an interactive session of basic techniques involved in this elegant Indian classical dance form of Kathak.
4. During the event, Ambassador of India H.E. Shri Pradeep Kumar Rawat felicitated the Kathak Artist Ms Jessica Correa, as a token of appreciation in recognition of her exceptional talent and dedication to promote Kathak in South China.
5. The event concluded with a short collective performance of the dance steps by the Kathak Artist along with the participants, which was followed by a group photo.
