World Hindi Day 2023 Hindi Patriotic Songs Workshop

Consulate General of India, Guangzhou organized a Workshop to teach singing of Hindi Patriotic Songs to Indian Diaspora in South China as part of the celebrations of World Hindi Day 2023. The objective of the Workshop was to foster feelings of patriotism through promotion of Hindi and Indian culture among the Indian Diaspora. Indian community members of all age groups took active part in the Workshop. Another objective of the Workshop was also to identify talented singers from Indian community and create a choir group of children as well as adults in order to train them for the various cultural and National Day events held at the Consulate.

2. In his address, Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki, highlighted the importance of learning Hindi as well the purpose of celebrating World Hindi Day every year. Consul General also informed the participants about making learning of Hindi interesting for children through music. This was followed by a speech on ‘Hindi Sahitya’ by Dr. Vivek Mani Tripathi, Assistant Professor, Hindi Department, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS).

3. The Workshop was conducted by local resource persons from Indian community who had a knowledge of Indian music. The resource persons were guided by Consul General Shri Shambhu Hakki who is also a practitioner of Hindustani Classical Music. During the workshop, the participants were taught about the correct pronunciation, techniques as well as melody of singing the Hindi patriotic songs. The participants learnt various patriotic songs such as ‘Jana Gana Mana’; ‘Vande Mataram’ ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logon’; ‘Ae Watan’; ‘Teri Mitti’; ‘Ye Jo Des Hai Tera’; ‘Mere Desh ki Dharti’ during the Workshop. The students from the workshop also volunteered to perform the Hindi songs learnt during the workshop. The event concluded with distribution of certificates and honorarium to the local resource persons who volunteered to conduct the workshop.

4. The Consulate is also planning to organize another practice session to teach Patriotic Songs to Indian Diaspora to further hone their skills. As part of the celebrations of World Hindi Day, Consulate General of India, Guangzhou had also organized a ‘Singing Competition of Hindi Songs’ as well as a ‘Workshop to teach Hindi Songs’ to the students of Hindi Department of GDUFS and Friends of India in South China.
