Make in India Week (Mumbai, 13-18 February, 2016)

  The ‘Make in India’ initiative was launched on September 25, 2014 in New Delhi by Hon’ble Prime Minister with the objective of making India a hub for manufacturing, design and innovation. A total of 25 focus sectors, where India has core competency to emerge as a global champion, were identified to attract greater foreign investments. Since the launch of this program, several radical measures have been taken to improve the ease of doing business, opening of FDI limits in different sectors and re-invigorating the infrastructure sector. The Make in India initiative of the Government has made a tremendous impact on the investment climate in India. FDI flows from October 2014 to April 2015 have risen by 48%.

            In order to showcase the potential of design, innovation and sustainability across India’s manufacturing sectors in the coming decade, the Government of India is organizing a landmark event titled “Make in India Week” from 13 to 18 February 2016 in Mumbai. The week-long event will offer foreign investors and businesses unprecedented access, insights and opportunities to showcase, connect and collaborate with young Indian entrepreneurs, industry leaders, academicians, and government officials at the central and state levels. Some highlights of the “Make in India Week” will include:

(i)            Make in India Center: Will be the platform for exhibiting innovative products and manufacturing processes developed in India along with a vision to leverage design, innovation and technology in the backdrop of global manufacturing.

(ii)           Asia Business Forum: Would comprise of a series of seminars, CXO meets and roundtables and networking events on economic challenges, investment opportunities, design and innovation. This event would feature global visionaries and leaders from the fields of finance, industry and design.

(iii)          Urban Planning Seminar on re-imagining Mumbai: This session would focus on new impetus for a smarter e-enabled Mumbai collaborating with the best-in-class technology partners.

(iv)         Hackathon: Would be a 24-hour marathon event where coders, engineers and designers collaborate intensively for 24 hours to come up with ideas to solve urban design problems.

(v)          State-focused promotion events, design conferences, culture and fashion shows and networking dinners.

The Make in India week envisages participation of global industry leaders, several foreign government representatives, consulting firms, financial institutions, academics, think-tanks and media.
