The Government of India has announced plans to develop 100 cities across India into smart cities over a period of five years (2016 to 2020). The core elements of the smart cities will be: water supply, assured electricity supply, Sanitation, including solid waste management, Efficient urban mobility and public transport, Affordable housing, especially for the poor, robust IT connectivity and digitalization, Good governance (E-Governance and citizen participation), Sustainable environment, Safety and security of citizens, Health and education. The smart cities project offers investment opportunities for companies and entrepreneurs from home and abroad to invest in and develop the core elements of the smart cities.
