On the occasion of the 68th Republic Day of India, the Consulate General of India in Guangzhou will be organizing a flag-hoisting ceremony on Thursday, 26th January, 2017 at 0900 hrs. at the residence of the Consul General.
International Day of Yoga
The 2nd International Day of India (IDY) in Southern China was celebrated in five cities jointly organized by the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou with the local Municipality governments and other Yoga Institutes.
INDIA-CHINA YOGA FESTIVAL KUNMING (JUNE 21-25, 2017)
Consulate General of India in Guangzhou and India-China Yoga College in Yunnan Minzu University has jointly organized China-India International Yoga Festival 2017 in Kunming. The opening ceremony of the festival was held on 21st June at Kunming Hi-Tech Industry Zone. Mr. Y.K.Sailas Thangal Consul General CGI Guangzhou, Mr. Chen Nuyan, Director of China-India Yoga College and Party Secretary of Yunnan Minzu University attended the ceremony and addressed the gathering.
At the opening ceremony more than two thousand yoga students and teachers including yoga teachers from China-India Yoga College at the Yunnan Minzu University performed a yoga show which was well received by the audience. Apart from yoga show, more than one thousand Taichi practitioners also performed at the opening ceremony.
The 4-day long yoga festival which start from June 22-25, 2017 will be led by 9 Yoga masters including Shri O.P Tiwari of Kaivalyadham, Ajay Toakas of Asthanga. CGI Guangzhou has invited and arranged the visit of all 9 yoga masters to participate in the yoga festival. The masters will be assisted by yoga teachers from India-China Yoga College. More than, one thousand yoga students will attend and practice yoga during the four-day long festival.
International Day of Yoga Celebrations in Guangzhou
The Brahmakumaris World Spiritual University, Guangzhou Centre with the support of Consulate General of India organized the 3rd IDY celebration at Grand International Hotel in Guangzhou on 18th June, 2017.
More than 300 Yoga enthusiasts participated in the event. The event included asanas prescribed in Common Yoga Protocol, meditation, pranayama exercises led by prominent yoga gurus based in Guangzhou and cultural performances by local artists.
International Day of Yoga Celebrations in Dongguan City
The third International Day of Yoga was celebrated in Dongguan City (Guangdong province, China) on 21st June 2017. The celebrations were organized by the Consulate General of India, Guangzhou, in collaboration with the Shan Mei Yoga Center, Dongguan, the Sanskrithi Yoga Center, Dongguan, and support of the local Indian community.
The half-day long IDY celebrations were held at the scenic Huying Lake Park in Dongguan City and was attended more than 250 yoga enthusiasts of various nationalities, a large number of them Chinese. Shri T.J. Suresh, Counsellor, CGI Guangzhou, addressed the gathering and explained to the participants the significance of International Day of Yoga and expressed the wish that more and more people will adopt yoga as a part of their daily life for a healthy mind and a healthy body.
Ms. Fang Bao Qin, Director, Shan Mei Yoga Center, assisted by other yoga teachers, demonstrated the basic yoga postures and simple aasanas based on the Common Yoga Protocol published by Ministry of AYUSH and explained the benefits of each Yoga aasana for the benefit of the participants. The participants welcomed the initiative to organize the IDY event in Dongguan City and enthusiastically joined in practicing the Yoga aasanas.
Dongguan City was one of the several cities in South China where CGI Guangzhou organized IDY 2017 celebrations.
International Day of Yoga Celebrated in Lecong, Shunde, Guangdong
CGI Guangzhou has organized the third International Day of Yoga Lecong, Shunde, Guangdong province on 21st June 2017. The celebrations were organized at Red Star Macalline Foshan Lecong Mall in collaboration with and support of the local Indian community.
The half-day session of IDY celebrations were attended by more than 300 yoga practitioners mainly local Chinese people and joined by few Indians. Shri P.V.Manoj, Consul, CGI Guangzhou addressed the yoga enthusiasts and explained the background of IDY celebrations and also the benefits of practicing Yoga.
Ms. Gigi Leung, Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce of Lecong Furniture Cities has addressed the gathering. In her address Ms. Gigi has thanked the Consulate and the mall owners for extending support for organzing the event and also the masters and students for enthusiastically joining the event. The Indian Community in Lecong has actively participated in organzing the event. The organizers were also roped in local Lecong TV station to broadcast the event.
The yoga classes were led by Indian yoga teachers Shri Rohit and Shri Ravi and the classes were programmed on Hatha Yoga way of practice. Both yoga teachers were also joined by local Chinese yoga teachers on stage for better coordination. Later BK Sister Sapna of Rajyoga has took class on meditation for more than half an hour which was well received by the students.
Republic Day 2017 Reception hosted by CGI Guangzhou on 20 January 2017
Consulate General of India, Guangzhou hosted a reception on 20th January to celebrate Republic Day 2017. The distinguished guests attending the reception included officials, businessmen, media and people from different walks of life in Guangdong, Guangzhou and the other provinces and cities under the jurisdiction of our Consulate, as well as members of the thriving Indian community living in Guangzhou and other cities. Mr. Li Yiwei, Deputy Secretary General of Guangdong Province, was the Chief Guest at the reception, representing the Provincial People's Government of Guangdong. During the reception, a special magazine 'Ni hao India' published by the Consulate in partnership with the Indian community was received. The guests were entertained to an Indian musical evening by a 3-member cultural troupe from India, led by Ustaad Sajjad Husain Khan (Mumbai).

Consulate organises India-China Trade, Investment & Tourism Seminar at Nanning on 17th March,2016
The Consulate General of India in Guangzhou, in cooperation with CCPIT Guangxi and the Tourism Development Commission of Guangxi, organised an ‘India-China Trade, Investment and Tourism Seminar’ at Wanda Vista Hotel in Nanning on 17 March 2016.
The programme included opening remarks by Mr. Y.K. Sailas Thangal, Consul General of India, speeches by representatives from Guangxi CCPIT and Tourism Development Commission of Guangxi, a short documentary film on ‘Make in India’, presentations on India trade & investment, India tourism and sharing of India experience by M/s Liu Gong Machinery Co. Ltd.
Over 150 participants representing the business and tourism sectors in Guangxi attended the seminar.

The Consulate General of India, Guangzhou, in partnership with Hotel Crowne Plaza organised an Indian Cookery Class on 26th February as part of its ongoing two week long ‘Glimpses of India Festival’, of Indian food, culture, handicrafts and tourism from 19th February to 4th March, 2016.
Consulate organises 'Know India Tourism Seminar' at Guangzhou on 24th February,2016
Consulate General of India in Guangzhou and India Tourism, Beijing organised a seminar titled “Know India Tourism” in Guangzhou on February 24, 2016. The seminar was one among a series of events being organized by the Consulate to promote India as an attractive destination for Chinese tourists and was held on the eve of India’s participation at the Guangzhou International Travel Fair 2016 (GITF 2016) where India Tourism, Beijing is setting up an Incredible India pavilion.
The seminar was attended by senior officials from Guangzhou Tourism Bureau led by Mr. Wu Qingsong, Deputy Director General, officials from Guangdong Tourism Administration, representatives of media organisations, business houses, Indian community members, over 160 travel agents from all over China, representatives from airlines such as Air India, Jet Airways and China Southern, representatives of leading Indian travel agencies participating in Guangzhou International Travel Fair 2016.
Consulate General of India in Guangzhou, Mr. Y.K. Sailas Thangal, in his opening remarks gave an overview of India’s rich history, culture and civilization. He gave them detailed information on wonderful tourism destinations of India, including magnificent architectural heritage, beaches, tropical islands, fauna & flora, hill stations, back water, temples and an array of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Consul General also informed them about India’s strengths in luxury, medical & wellness tourism as well as the spiritual tourism including that of Buddhist circuits. He urged the tour operators to prepare packages which enable Chinese travelers to experience India’s rich and diverse cultural heritage.
Mr. Wu Qingsong, Deputy Director General of Guangzhou Tourism Bureau in his speech dwelled on the need for greater tourist flow between the two countries especially when this year is being celebrated as Visit China year in India.
The seminar also included presentations on various touristic destinations in states, sector-wise opportunities available in India’s booming tourism market, information on simplified visa procedures including eTourist Visa scheme, B2B meetings and raffle draw of 2 return tickets to India sponsored by Jet Airways.
There has been explosion of outbound tourists from China during the last few years and according to China tourism Research Institute about 109 million Chinese travelled overseas in the year 2014 making china as the world’s top source market for tourism. Chinese tourists spending on overseas travel were also estimated to be the highest in the world in 2014 at US$ 164.8 billion. President Xi Jinping addressing the BOAO forum in April 2015 said that Chinese outbound tourist may exceed 400 million in the coming five years.
The Consulate General of India in Guangzhou recognizing the huge potential for attracting Chinese tourist to India has been very active on all front in promoting India and India as the tourism destination. As part of this promotional activities Consulate has proactively participated in all the major tourism promotion fairs, (GITF 2015, Guangdong International Tourism Industry Expo 2015, Sichuan International Travel Expo 2015,) besides being very active on Chinese social media platform. As a result of these efforts, Consulate witnessed 40% increases of tourist flow from China to India in 2015 year when compared to 2014.
The seminar “Know India Tourism” has been organized as part of the continued efforts of Consulate General of India in Guangzhou to create awareness and publicize Indian tourism in China.

Consulate celebrates the 67th Republic Day of India at Guangzhou
India-China Friendship Handshake Concert 2015 at Kunming (27 November 2015)
The Consulate General and the People’s Municipality of Kunming City, in collaboration with Rattle & Hum Music Society of Nagaland, successfully organised, the India-China Friendship Handshake Concert at Kunming on 27th November, 2015. The Concert was organised at the prestigious Kunming Theatre which had capacity exceeding 1000 persons which was filled to the brim.
Dignitaries present at the event from Kunming side included Mr. Guan Qing Hua, Acting Mayor (Vice Mayor) of Kunming City; Mr. Kong Can, Head of Yunnan Development Research Institute; Mr. Lu Tian Yun, Director General of Kunming and senior officials from Yunnan FAO and Kunming FAO. From Indian side, Mr. L. Khreihu, Parliamentary Secretary of Sports and Youth and Music Taskforce, Nagaland and Mr. Y.K. Sailas Thangal, Consul General of India, Guangzhou, were present. Diplomatic corps in Kunming (ASEAN and Bangladesh Consul Generals and officials from these Consulates) also attended the concert and appreciated the Consulate’s effort to organise the event.
The artists including, Grammy Award winner and global ambassador of Rattle & Hum Music Society Pt. Vishwamohan who enthralled the audience with his Mohan Veena performance, Guru Rewben, the acclaimed traditional and fusion musician, the Voices of Hope, the first show choir of Nagaland, Tetseo Sisters and the Purple Fusion, a traditional rock band, performed alongwith the Chinese artists from Yunnan Minzu University.
The artists presented different genre of enchanting music with traditional and folk songs, modern rock, fusion and soul searching music played to its perfection during the concert, which mesmerized the entire audience from beginning to the end.
Visit of Hon'ble Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of Tourism and Culture
Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Minister of State for Tourism and Culture (Independent Charge), visited Kunming, Yunnan on 13-14 November where he led India's participation as Guest Country of Honour at the China International Travel Mart (CITM). The CITM is one of the largest travel and tourism events in the Asia-Pacific.
A large Indian contingent comprising officials of the Ministry of Tourism, the Embassy of India in Beijing and Consulate in Guangzhou, the State Governments of Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Nagaland, and Haryana, and industry representatives are attending the CITM. Haryana's representation is led by state Tourism Minister, Mr. Ram Bilas Sharma.
This year is being celebrated as the Visit India Year in China under which a series of initiatives and activities have been held. In May, while visiting China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a significant policy initiative to extend the electronic visa on arrival facility to China to ease travel to India. This facility is available to Chinese citizens since July this year.
At the CITM, Hon'ble Minister together with China's Tourism Minister, Mr. Li Jinzao and Yunnan Provincial Party Secretary, Mr. Li Jiheng inaugurated the Indian National Pavilion on the opening day of 13th November in the presence of media persons and other participants. Before that, he also delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the CITM which was also attended by about twenty Ministerial dignitaries from other countries.
Later that day, Hon'ble Minister addressed the India-China Tourism Forum and China International Tourism Symposium jointly organized by the Ministry of Tourism of India and China National Tourism Administration. The Forum brought together over 300 industry and government stakeholders, as well as media and international organizations. Chinese Tourism Minister Li Jinzao, Yunnan Governor Chen Hao, PATA Chairman Kevin Murphy, and UN World Tourism Organization Executive Director Zhu Shanzhong also addressed the plenary session. Hon'ble Minister in his address highlighted India's rich and diverse natural, cultural, and religious heritage which provides unique tourism opportunities. He drew attention to tourism's catalytic role in developing mutual understanding and enhancing mutual trust through expanded people-to-people contacts and in promoting economic development.
Coinciding with India's participation at CITM, an outdoor tourism promotion event called India Fair is also being held at a major city square in Kunming with performances by a musical group from Nagaland, Voices of Hope, Manipuri dance troupe, artisans from Karnataka and Telangana, and yoga demonstrations. An arts and crafts exhibition-cum-sale and Street Food Festival are the other highlights of the India Fair that will run for the duration of CITM. India-specific B2B sessions, Know India Seminars, demonstrations of Indian arts and crafts are being organized at CITM to make Indian participation.
